Semi-online scheduling for jobs with release times

چکیده
In this paper we consider three semi-online scheduling problems for jobs with release times on m identical parallel machines. The worst case performance ratios of the LS algorithm are analyzed. The objective function is to minimize the maximum completion time of all machines, i.e. the makespan. If the job list has a nondecreasing release times, then 2− 1 m is the tight bound of the worst case performance ratio of the LS algorithm. If the job list has non-increasing processing times, we show that 2 − 1 2m is an upper bound of the worst case performance ratio of the LS algorithm. Furthermore if the job list has non-decreasing release times and the job list has non-increasing processing times we prove that the LS algorithm has worst case performance ratio not greater than 2 − 1 2m .

Online Scheduling of Jobs for D-benevolent instances On Identical Machines
We consider online scheduling of jobs with specic release time on m identical machines. Each job has a weight and a size; the goal is maximizing total weight of completed jobs. At release time of a job it must immediately be scheduled on a machine or it will be rejected. It is also allowed during execution of a job to preempt it; however, it will be lost and only weight of completed jobs contri...
متن کاملSemi-online scheduling problems on two uniform machines under a grade of service provision
In this talk, we discuss semi-online scheduling on two uniform machines under a grade of service (GoS) provision, where one machine with speed one can process all jobs, and the other machine with speed s (s>0) can only process some jobs. The objective is to minimize the makespan. We consider two variants, where the total size of jobs or the optimal makespan is known in advance. For both variant...
متن کاملA Note on Online Scheduling for Jobs with Arbitrary Release Times
We investigate the problem of on-line scheduling for jobs with arbitrary release times on m identical parallel machines. The goal is to minimize the makespan. We derive a best possible online algorithm with competitive ratio of 2 for m = 2. For a special case that all the jobs have unit processing times, we prove that Algorithm LS has a tight bound of 3/2 for general m machines.
متن کاملOptimal Semi-online Algorithm for Scheduling on a Batch Processing Machine
We consider two semi-online scheduling problems on a single batch (processing) machine with jobs’ nondecreasing processing times and jobs’ nonincreasing processing times, respectively. Our objective is to minimize the makespan. A batch processing machine can handle up to B jobs simultaneously. We study an unbounded model where B = ∞. The jobs that are processed together construct a batch, and a...
متن کاملOnline Algorithms for Scheduling Unit Jobs
In this abstract we give a short survey of results from [5, 3] on the following unit-job scheduling problem. We are given a set of unit-length jobs, with each job specified by a triple ( ) where and are integral release times and deadlines, and is a non-negative real weight. We have a single machine, i.e., one job can be processed at each integer time. We use the term weighted throughput or gai...
